Introduction
Dogs are loyal and fun-loving animals, but they can be easily distracted by things around them, especially when you take them for a walk. Whether it’s another dog or something else that grabs their attention, it can be frustrating to struggle with your pooch every time you go out for a stroll. But what if we told you that there was an easy way to teach your dog to just walk away?
Start Small
The key to teaching your dog anything is starting small and building up from there. Start by taking your pup out on a leash in an area with low distractions. When your dog starts getting distracted by something like a squirrel or other dogs, use “leave it” command while gently pulling the leash away from the source of distraction.
Reward Good Behavior
Whenever your furry friend listens and walks away from the distraction, reward them with treats or praise immediately after using positive reinforcement techniques. This will help reinforce good behavior so that they learn walking away is rewarding in itself.
Practice Makes Perfect
It’s important not to get frustrated if progress seems slow at first – all good things take practice! Even if you have already taught this command before don’t forget consistent training will make sure they remember it under different environments too!
Persistence Pays Off!
Remember: Teaching any new skill takes time and patience but with consistency and determination eventually pays off And before long, both of you will enjoy peaceful walks together without any unwanted interruptions!
